CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- A popular baby and children’s furniture store closed its doors Friday, leaving more than 100 soon-to-be parents without cribs, bedding and their money.

Pam Torado said she had no warning that the USA Baby Charlotte on South Boulevard was in danger of closing. Torado paid $2,300 for a crib, bedding and dresser from the store in October. She visited the store over the weekend and found the doors were locked.

“She will be here any day now. I have no where to put my baby, no money to repurchase everything. I don’t know what I’m going to do,” said Torado.

NewsChannel 36 asked the store’s attorney for answers. He said the owners of USA Baby Charlotte are filing for Chapter 7 bankruptcy.

“This is a 14-year business. This is my client’s livelihood. There is never a good time to pull the plug. There will always be outstanding orders,” said attorney Jeff Dalrymple.

Torado said she is still trying to figure what to do about her daughter’s room. Dalrymple said even if the furniture is paid for and in the warehouse, it will not be given to customers.

Instead, all of USA Baby Charlotte’s assets will be liquidated - a trustee will distribute any money available as a part of the bankruptcy proceedings.

“We hope to give people their money back,” said Dalrymple. He asked USA Baby Charlotte customers with questions to contact him at 704-847-7151.
