GASTONIA, N.C. -- NewsChannel 36 has learned there may be more arrests in the murders of two women from Gastonia. Investigators are tight-lipped about the case, but it is possible the charges could involve aiding and abetting or obstruction of justice.
Friday afternoon several aunts and uncles of 17-year-old Heather Catterton met with Gaston County District Attorney Locke Bell hoping to get some answers about the two murders.
Catterton's father Nick and her older sister Nicole were noticeably absent from the meeting with Bell. Nicole Catterton had been dating Danny Hembree who is the only person charged to date with the murders.
Catterton's body was found in October in a field outside of Clover, South Carolina. Catterton's friend, 30-year-old Randi Saldana, was found two weeks later in early November. Her body was burned and left in some woods at the Kings Mountain State Park, also in York County, South Carolina.
Investigators have said they believe both women were murdered on separate dates at a home in Gastonia where Hembree lived with his mother.
Catterton's aunts and uncles were hoping to learn how the women were killed and why, but after the meeting they were taken out another door and could not be reached for comment.
Bell said after the meeting he answered some questions but not all.
"We did not get into the facts of the case. We got more into the procedure," Bell said.
A grand jury will be asked to return murder indictments against Hembree next week.
