CHARLOTTE, N.C. – A popular retail outlet has pulled one of its items after parents complained about the message it sends to young girls.
The Washington Post is reporting JCPenney has taken the shirt off its online store after a petition at Change.org began earlier Wednesday.
“In a world where women are fighting for respect and equality, JCPenney is promoting a message in the vein of Mattel's talking Barbie who bemoaned, ‘Math is hard, let's go shopping,’” the petition stated.
As of 12:15 p.m. Wednesday, the petition already had nearly 1,500 signatures.
The shirt, on sale for $9.99, targets girls ages 7-16, and the caption next to the photo online said, "Who has time for homework when there's a new Justin Bieber album out? She'll love this tee that's just as cute and sassy as she is."

Its just a shirt,” said Annett Shinn. “I would worry more if it was see-through or had cursing on it! It's just a saying folks!”
Add Melissa McGrady Emerine, “ What brother is going to do their sister's homework? I know my son wouldn't.”
"First, the shirt is glorifying beauty,” said Sarah Faulkenberry. “It's stating that beauty is way more important than an education.”
