CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Charlotte-Mecklenburg police arrested a 24-year-old man Monday afternoon for allegedly causing a lockdown at Piedmont Middle School.
Officers say that Steven Major came on the campus and tried to enter the building before he was turned away.
They believe he was trying to address a situation involving a student who is a relative. The girl was rough housing with another student and ended up getting hurt. Her injuries required stitches.
Parents like Darrel Miller feel Major went too far.
"I think you should prosecute someone who is not supposed to be on the school property because you have innocent kids here," said Miller.
Police say after Major left the property he returned and tried to enter through a back door. By that time the campus was on lockdown.
Officers say the rough housing incident occurred in October, and they don’t know why Major was upset on Monday.
Surluta Anthony is a parent who voiced concern with NewsChannel 36 as well.
"A lot of people can’t handle their emotions. He probably needs to seek some kind of mental evaluation," said Anthony.
Major has been charged with trespassing and his bond was set at $500.
