HENDERSONVILLE, N.C. -- Henderson County voters will soon have their first chance since 1955 to decide whether alcohol should be sold everywhere, or whether some parts of the county should stay dry.
The Times-News of Hendersonville reports that county commissioners are expected Monday to formally ask for an alcohol sales referendum that they agreed to last summer.
The measure would ask voters to decide separately on beer and wine sales, liquor sales at ABC stores and liquor sales by the drink in restaurants.
Those sales are currently banned in non-incorporated parts of the county.
Voters in the county haven't cast ballots on the question of staying dry since the Eisenhower administration.
If council approves, the measure would be on the May 8 primary ballot.
