CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Under a new plan Charlotte residents could soon be able to do something about coyotes in their neighborhood.

A new North Carolina Wildlife Commission proposal could allow people to hunt coyotes on Sundays at night on private land with bows and arrows.

This new hunting plan is meant to help control the wild coyote population. In the past few months, there have been several pets hurt or killed by coyotes.

A statewide public hearing on the coyote problems start in a few weeks. There is no word yet on when a final decision will be made on the proposal.

Mecklenburg County has also launched a new website where neighbors can log on, and report coyote sightings.  This new tool allows officials to track where the animals are being spotted.
