MATTHEWS, N.C. -- Police say it appears an SUV turned left in front of a motorcycle in a deadly collision on Independence Boulevard Saturday.
Matthews police also say the motorcycle was traveling at a "high rate of speed."
The motorcycle, driven by Craig Anderson of Monroe, collided with the SUV on Independence Boulevard just before 3:30 p.m. Saturday.
Police say the motorcycle hit the SUV with such force that it tipped it over.
Anderson, 36, and his passenger Tiffany Johnson, 24, were killed on impact.
The driver of the SUV, identified as 46-year-old Gloria Escobar of Charlotte, is listed in serious condition at a hospital. Her husband, 37-year-old Alfredo Morales was also taken to a hospital.
The crash is under investigation by the Matthews Police Department. No charges have been filed.
