CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- On the first day candidates were allowed to file at the Board of Elections, Mecklenburg County Commissioners Chair Jennifer Roberts announced she is running for congress, and City Councilman Andy Dulin said his campaigning will begin Tuesday.
Roberts released a statement before 4 p.m. saying she is running for the 9th District in the North Carolina House of Representatives.
"I believe that America is strongest when we all work together and I promise to work tirelessly to represent all of the people of the 9th District in an open, ethical and positive manner. Together, we will get Washington back to work as we get Americans back to work."
Dulin, meanwhile, said he will make four stops across the district on Tuesday. Dulin will head be in Mooresville, Cornelius, Madison Park and Matthews throughout the morning and afternoon.
The seat both candidates are seeking is currently occupied by Rep. Sue Myrick, who has been a Representative since 1995.
Roberts announced in November she would not seek re-election as chair after her eight years with the board.
