WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Winston-Salem State University and the U.S. Postal Service will dedicate commemorative postage stamps honoring three people for the Black Heritage stamp series, including artist and North Carolina native Romare Bearden.
The event will be held Monday evening at Diggs Gallery on the campus of WSSU. Bearden, is being honored with two other, Ebony and Jet magazine publisher John Johnson and former Texas Congresswoman Barbara Jordan.
Bearden is being recognized for his groundbreaking approach to collage, along with his work in watercolors, oils and other media.
