CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- A heavy line of thunderstorms pounded much of the metro Charlotte area and surrounding cities Friday, causing cancellations to several high school football games, thousands of power outages, and minor damage.

About 8,000 Mecklenburg County residents were without power as of 11 p.m. Friday.  About 3,200 are without power in Lincoln County, and about 2,100 are in the dark in Cabarrus County.

All Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools football games were postponed and will be made up Tuesday night starting at 7 p.m.  The games will not be played on Monday because of Labor Day.

Rock Hill High School will resume its matchup at Nation Ford at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.  Charlotte Catholic High School and Charlotte Country Day will resume play Saturday morning at 11.  Crest and Shelby will hit the turf against Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
