RALEIGH, N.C. — Motorists using Interstate 85 will have to deal with a detour as work on the corridor improvement project continues.
The N.C. Department of Transportation says it will close I-85 South from Belmont Road at Exit 86 to Clark Road at Exit 85 from Wednesday at 10 p.m. to Thursday at 6 a.m. The closure is necessary for crews to install the remaining nine concrete girders on the new Belmont Road bridge over the interstate.
During the closure, motorists traveling south on I-85 must follow a designated detour route using the Belmont Road exit ramp.
If crews cannot place all nine girders during this closure, the department will schedule a similar overnight closure from Thursday at midnight to Friday at 6 a.m. to complete the work.
