GASTONIA, N.C. -- York County detectives spent another day in Gastonia on Thursday, investigating the deaths of two women who were found dead just miles apart.
"Before another girl comes up missing, somebody needs to find out who this guy is," said Nick Catterton, father of 17-year-old Heather Catteron, who was found dead in October.
One of the stops deputies made was to see Tim Gause. Gause was the boyfriend of Randi Saldana, who was found dead earlier this week in Kings Mountain State Park. Investigators say her body had been burned.
On Wednesday, police asked Gause for a DNA test. On Friday they want him to take a lie detector test. Gause told NewsChannel 36 he was not concerned about the tests.
"No, not at all. I have nothing to hide," he said.
Complicating matters for investigators are lifestyle issues.
"She was free spirited," Catterton said about his daughter.
Gause doesn't agree in regards to his girlfriend.
"She wasn't no prostitute. She wasn't nothing like that," he said.
Charisse Coston, an associate criminal justice professor at UNC-Charlotte, said, "Makes it more difficult for detectives to develop an offender base because they are out in public, they are dealing with strangers more often."
Investigators aren't saying much about their case, including whether a serial killer might be responsible.
"To pour gasoline on another human being and set her on fire is pretty crazy," Catterton said.
Catterton says that Saldana came by to see his daughter. He's not sure how they met, but it's common knowledge they traveled in the same circles.
