2 tablespoons good olive oil $0.50

1/2 medium onion, chopped (about 1/2 cup) $0.32

1/2 green bell pepper (about 1/2 cup) $0.75

2 garlic cloves, minced $0.05

1 1/4 pounds ground turkey $3.49

1 (28-ounce) can crushed tomatoes $0.99

1 tablespoon tomato paste $0.06

1 tablespoon unsalted butter $0.15

1 teaspoon dried oregano
Pinch crushed red pepper flakes

1 teaspoon sugar
3/4 teaspoon kosher salt

1/2 teaspoon coarse ground black pepper

1 (16-ounce) box campanelle pasta $1.28
1/4 cup fresh basil leaves, lightly packed and chopped $1.00
1/4 cup heavy cream $0.26
1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese, plus extra for serving $1.06

Total $9.91

Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the onion and bell pepper. Cook until tender, about 5 minutes. Add garlic and cook one additional minute. Add the ground turkey, cook until no longer pink, breaking up the meat with wooden spoon, about 10 minutes. Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, butter, oregano, red pepper flakes, sugar, salt and pepper. Bring to a simmer, reduce heat and cook partially covered until the sauce thickens, about 10 minutes.

Meanwhile, cook the pasta according to manufacturer's instructions, about 10 minutes. Drain and pour into a large serving bowl.

Stir the basil, heavy cream and 1/2 cup Parmesan into the sauce. Season to taste with salt and pepper. Pour sauce over pasta. Toss well to coat. Serve immediately with Parmesan cheese on the side.
