Clear the Shelters Adoption Day sees pets find forever families

Pets across the Charlotte area found their familes through NBC’s Clear The Shelters campaign.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A nationwide campaign to help clear the shelters and find forever homes for as many pets as possible wrapped up Saturday, with many Charlotte-area families finding a new furry friend!

Donate money to help Clear The Shelters

Many area shelters and rescue groups are at capacity, which means there’s no available kennel space.  WCNC Charlotte helped Clear the Shelters by encouraging pet adoptions or donations on Saturday, Aug. 26.

An in-person Clear the Shelters Adoption Event took place at Charlotte-Mecklenburg Animal Care & Control, 8315 Byrum Drive in Charlotte. Thanks to the open hearts of several families, 53 pets went home and curled right on up!

Families who adopted a pet on Saturday from Charlotte-Mecklenburg Animal Care & Control received an adoption package valued at approximately $425.  The package includes:

  • Up-to-date on all vaccines
  • Dewormed and heartworm test
  • Spay or neuter surgery
  • Microchip (includes registration)
  • Pet license smart tag
  • 4 weeks of free Goodpup virtual dog training
  • $100 medical voucher for Animal Medical Hospital

The animal adoption fee on Saturday was waived at Charlotte-Mecklenburg Animal Care & Control when a monetary donation was made to support Clear the Shelters.

Adoption day festivities included a vendor village where people could visit with pet-related businesses, along with the WCNC tent where you could spin the wheel for a free item for your pet.

WCNC Volunteers were on hand running a microchip checkpoint to make sure your pet's microchip has the correct information. There was also a free pet tag station.

Anyone who can't adopt right now is asked to please consider making a monetary donation.
