Davis stays mum on Tar Heels' starting quarterback

11:54 PM EDT on Tuesday, September 23, 2008

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) -- North Carolina coach Butch Davis still isn't saying who will start at quarterback for the Tar Heels this weekend at Miami.

Davis said redshirt freshman Mike Paulus and third-year junior Cameron Sexton split time with the first-team offense during Tuesday afternoon's practice. Davis hinted that he wasn't sure who

would start in place of T.J. Yates, who is out for at least six weeks with a fracture in his left ankle.

Yates was injured when he was sacked during the weekend loss to Virginia Tech.

Davis says the Tar Heels will run the same offense regardless of whether Paulus or Sexton start against the Hurricanes. Davis says both players went through a similar situation during spring drills while Yates was sidelined following shoulder surgery.
