CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — Andy Gale pitched the first complete-game shutout this year to lead North Carolina to a 4-0 win over Davidson on Tuesday night.

Gale (2-1) allowed six hits and hit a batter, while striking out a career-high 10 batters and allowing no walks. No Wildcat made it past second base.

Brian Packey (0-2) took the loss for the Wildcats, who dropped to 15-16. North Carolina improved to 28-6 in the non-conference game.

The Tar Heels ran up a 3-0 lead in the first inning when Justin Webb scored on a single by Chad Flack, while Matt Ellington and Jay Cox reached on a two-out double by Seth Williams.
