GREENSBORO, N.C. -- North Carolina's Sean May and Wake Forest's Kelly Dostal are the male and female athletes of the year in the Atlantic Coast Conference. The league announced the awards today based on results from voting by the Atlantic Coast Sports Media Association.

The six foot nine inch tall May helped the Tar Heels' men's basketball team win the ACC regular-season title en route to winning the NCAA championship. May was named Most Outstanding Player of the Final Four after scoring 26 points in the 75-to-70 win over Illinois.

Dostal helped the Demon Deacons claim their third straight NCAA title in field hockey. She earned all-America honors and led the ACC with 30 goals and 173 shots.
