CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- One person was killed and two others were injured in an accident on Beatties Ford Road Wednesday morning.
The accident happened around 8:45 a.m. on Beatties Ford Road and Rhian Brook Lane near I-485.
According to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police, a Mustang driven by 19-year-old Warnella Bryant, veered into oncoming traffic and struck a Chrysler Lebaron nearly head-on.
The passenger of the Lebaron, 60-year-old Donna Soloman, was pronounced dead at the scene. The Labaron's driver, 70-year-old Melvin Soloman, was taken to CMC Main with serious injuries.
A witness, Natalie Marshall, who lives nearby says Melvin Solomon said he tried to swerve to miss the Mustang but couldn’t in time which caused the car to hit almost head-on. Marshall says both cars were a mangled mess, and that Solomon seemed still in shock.
“He was devastated, devastated and he wanted to find his cell phone so he could call his son, but you couldn’t find anything in the car, it was too much of a mess, “ said Marshall.
Bryant, who police say will be arrested and charged with misdemeanor death by vehicle upon her release, was taken to CMC Main by helicopter with serious injuries.
Police say alcohol was not a factor.
Part of Beatties Ford Road was blocked in both directions Wednesday morning, but reopened right around noon.
