LEXINGTON, N.C. (AP) -- A child has been killed and a pregnant woman was found dead after a boat crash on High Rock Lake in Davidson County.

Wildlife officials say a speedboat collided and went over the top of a pontoon boat around 12:30 p.m. Saturday on the northern part of the lake near Linwood.

Authorities say there were four people on each boat. A child on the pontoon boat was killed and a woman onboard also died, authorities say the child was wearing a life jacket.  The woman was not wearing a life vest, according to authorities.

The father of the child suffered only minor injuries, another man was also hospitalized.

No one on the speedboat was injured.

Investigators do not believe alcohol was a factor in the crash.  According to Sgt. Anthony Sharum with the Wildlife Resource Commission, both boats were coming towards each other. The pontoon boat was moving at a slower speed, and appeared to be heading into a dock.

The speedboat driver told authorities he did not see the pontoon boat.  Officials said it didn't appear the pontoon boat could've avoided getting hit due to it's slower speed.

According to Sgt. Sharum, the waterway where the collision happened was narrow with homes on both sides.

Officials noted the passengers on the speedboat were all wearing life jackets, but the adults aboard the pontoon were not wearing life jackets.

The investigating officiers with the Wildlife Resource Commission will meet the District Attorney to discuss if additional charges should be filed.
