States of Emergency
Governors Pat McCrory and Nikki Haley both signed emergency declarations in their respective states on Tuesday.
In North Carolina, snowfall is expected to range from two inches on the southern Outer Banks up to eight inches in the western mountains.
In South Carolina, up to eight inches of snow is forecasted to fall over parts of the state, while others may see up to an inch of ice. The state of emergency put the National Guard on active duty to support state agencies. The National Guard has wrecker teams and four-wheel drive vehicles that can be used in storm response. Additionally, the declaration puts into effect anti-price gouging laws.
Forecasters warned a mixture of sleet and freezing rain could bring down power lines.
