CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Arctic air will spill into the region Tuesday making for much cooler temperatures and bringing the chance for freezing rain and snow later in the week.

Temperatures will struggle to climb out of the 30s Tuesday in the Charlotte area.

Tuesday night, temperatures will fall into the teens and low 20s in the Piedmont.

A wind chill advisory has been issued for Watauga and Ashe counties, with wind chills as cold as minus-8 degrees forecast for Tuesday.

Early indications are showing a chance for freezing rain and snow on Friday, according to the First Warn Storm Team.

The big difference from last week's winter weather is the cold and dry air over the Charlotte region this week, according to Chief Meteorologist Brad Panovich.

While the amounts aren’t large, freezing rain and ice could be the major issue that could lead to larger impacts, Panovich said.

Timing for the storm could fall between Friday morning into Friday afternoon.
