GASTONIA, N.C. --  Emergency crews in Gastonia rescued a man who fell in a manhole on Wednesday night.

Officials said they rescued a man who fell 9-feet and became stuck in a manhole overnight along East Long Avenue.

The man was not found until Thursday morning when workers nearby heard him calling for help.

The manhole had no cover when the victim was walking in the area. According to a city official, the manhole cover was stolen and city did not know it was uncovered.
