Lightning strike sparks fire at Mt. Pleasant lumber company

MOUNT PLEASANT, N.C. – Nearly 50 firefighters responded to a lumber yard fire in Cabarrus County Wednesday evening.

Witnesses told NBC Charlotte the fire at Miller Lumber Co. on Jackson Street was massive, but first responders said no one was hurt.

Officials said a lightning strike sparked the fire just before 6:30 p.m.  The building was a complete loss.

Highway 49 is open, but traffic was restricted on Jackson and Main streets Wednesday evening.

The lumber company had been apart of Cabarrus County community since 1889.
