GASTONIA, N.C. -- Police are looking for a subject who they say is a person of interest in the shooting death of a Hunter Huss High School student.
"It really hurts," said Stephanie Rhyne.
Two days earlier, her classmate, Brandon McCall, 17, lay dying in his car that crashed in front of her house.
McCall was inside his car when someone fired one shot into the front passenger side door. The bullet hit McCall, who then drove off from Third Avenue onto Garrison Boulevard, before hitting an SUV and crashing into a pole.
"They shot him through the door, then his foot hit the gas, and then he got in the car crash," said Chelsea Collier, the sister of one of McCall's friends.
Two others were inside McCall's car when he crashed: a girl and Collier's brother.
She said that McCall was "lured" to the Parkdale Street-area for a "sale", and then someone other than the caller pulled a gun on McCall.
Collier said her brother told her that McCall told the would-be robber that "the stuff was in the trunk... when he looked back, he drove off... [and] the guy shot at the door”.
"Somebody called to have him down there, and once he got there… he tried to drive away and then he got shot," she said. "Police know who did it."
At this time, Gastonia Police say the incident is still under investigation.
