LENOIR, N.C. -- A Lenoir man is charged with first-degree murder after police said they found a person’s body late Friday.

Police said they received a call at 11:49 p.m. to check on the welfare of a resident on Wild Cherry Lane in Lenoir. Officers who arrived at the scene found one person dead.

Police have not yet released the name of the victim nor said how the person died.

But authorities arrested 36-year-old Michael Joseph Whisnant, who lived at the residence. He is being held without bond in the Caldwell County Detention Center, and is set to make a first appearance in court on Monday.

Lenoir police and the N.C. State Bureau of Investigation are looking into the death.
