MATTHEWS, N.C. -- A man who police say is responsible for three Charlotte area pharmacy robberies was captured on Thursday.
Daren Michael Williams, 41, was taken into custody Thursday after three robberies in less than 24 hours.
Williams allegedly stole cash from a Stallings Walgreen's at 5455 Potter Road around 10:45 a.m Wednesday. He fled the scene in a coat and pajamas after robbing the pharmacy, police said.
Hours later, police said he robbed the Walgreen's pharmacy at 13720 East Independence Boulevard in Indian Trail. Williams entered the store around 1:30 a.m. Thursday and tried to grab cash from a clerk while the register was open.
"When the clerk opened the cash drawer, the man allegedly attempted to grab money from the register drawer," officials said in a statement. "The clerk was quicker, though, and managed to slam the drawer closed before the man obtained any money."
After running from that store, police say Williams entered the CVS at 1305 Matthews-Township Parkway around 1:45 a.m. in Matthews.
After taking cash from the store, Williams allegedly led police on a chase along Sardis Road.
He then crashed at the intersection of Sardis Pointe, jumped out of his vehicle and fled the scene on foot, evading the officers.
No one was hurt during any of the three robberies.
A reported domestic disturbance at a home in Stallings helped lead police to Williams.
Evidence at the scene of the 911 call implicated Williams, and Matthews police say they developed the same person of interest at the location.
Williams is charged with the two robberies in Union County, and Matthews police are following up to determine additional charges related to the CVS robbery.
Williams is being held without bond and is due to appear in court on February 12.
