GASTON COUNTY, N.C. – A man is recovering after falling nearly 50 feet from Crowders Mountain on Saturday.
The incident happened near the Linwood Road access to Crowders Mountain. Gaston Emergency Management tells NewsChannel 36, the man was rappelling off the side of the mountain when he hit his head. The incident happened around 12:30 Saturday afternoon.
Officials say the 37-year-old man suffered a major head injury and was transported by Med Center Air to CMC Main.
“It was difficult to access him, because he was still suspended by a rope,” said Travis Adams with Gaston County EMS.
According to Adams, the man was dangling on the side of the mountain when crews arrived.
No word yet on the man’s identity, or his condition..
