CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- A police chase that started in north Charlotte ended in the Colony Acres neighborhood off Nations Ford Road in southwest Charlotte.

Police say they spotted five men, believed to have been involved in several break-ins across the city, in a black SUV. They tried to pull them over but the men refused, prompting what police call a short chase.

Officers say the suspects may have fired at them while driving.

Major Jeff Estes told NBC Charlotte, "We're investigating the possibility that shots were fired by the suspects during the pursuit; no one was hit, injured, [and] there was no return fire."

Once in the Colony Acres neighborhood, dozens of police officers searched for the men, arresting them all in about an hour.

Larry Thomas, Marlow Johnson, Nico Benn, Tyrell Brace and Milton Dunlap were all charged for their invovlement the break-ins and chase.

Nearby Nations Ford Elementary was on lockdown while the search was underway, though it appears none of the suspects ever went on school grounds.
