CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Charlotte-Mecklenburg police are looking for a man they are calling “a person of interest” whom they want to talk to about the body of a dismembered woman that was found in an SUV parked in the Hidden Valley neighborhood.
Investigators have not released the name of the woman who was found in the Toyota 4Runner that was left in a parking space along Dove Tree Lane in the Woodland Hollow Apartment complex.
Police have also not said if they know who the man is that appears in a number of pictures investigators released, hoping someone has information about him.
In the photos the man appears to be pushing a shopping cart though a store and the pictures appear to be from a store surveillance camera. There is no indication from police as to when the photos were taken.
Neighbors said the SUV had been in the same parking space for at least a week. Scott Coffey, who lives nearby said he’d noticed the vehicle.
“I work a lot so I thought it was just someone there on an opposite shift or something,” Coffey said.
Shown pictures of the man police want to talk to, neighbors said they did not recall ever seeing him in the apartment complex.
Neighbors called police on Sunday after detecting a strong smell coming from around the vehicle. Police towed the SUV to headquarters where the dismembered body was discovered.
Said neighbor Samantha Tarnacki, “It’s not safe around here anymore.”
If anyone has any information about he case or knows who the man is, you are asked to call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600 or you can call investigators directly at 704-432-TIPS.
