CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- It's official: Billy Graham is North Carolina's favorite son.
State lawmakers passed a resolution Wednesday afternoon in honor of the reverend.
Ahead of the resolution's approval, Governor Pat McCrory presented Reverend Graham with a proclamation declaring him "North Carolina's Favorite Son" during a visit with the Graham Family on March 1.
The Associated Press reports the General Assembly remembered Reverend Graham's late wife, Ruth, too. Both the Senate and the House passed resolutions Wednesday afternoon to memorialize Ruth, who died in 2007 at age 87.
Ruth was an author, and the daughter of Christian missionaries.
The couple's son, Reverend Franklin Graham, delivered the opening prayer for the Senate Wednesday, the AP reports.
