CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The rain and cloudy skies are slowly expected to clear today.

Tuesday started out cloudy with some light rain around the Charlotte area.

"There will be a band of showers coming through our area this morning," forecaster Larry  Sprinkle said. " By noon and 12:30 p.m. still some clouds and fog, but it slowly moves out of the area and begins to clear up."

The system is expected to slowly move out Tuesday afternoon but clouds will still hang around for much of the day. High temperatures will be in the low 50s Tuesday afternoon.

"The clouds should move out this afternoon leaving for a clear and cool night. The sun should return for tomorrow," Sprinkle said.

Colder air also spills in for Wednesday and the second half of the week.

The Charlotte region will see high temperatures back in the 40s and low temperatures back in the 20s.
