CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- A southeast Charlotte road was temporarily closed after a serious overnight crash.

The crash took place around midnight when the driver of an SUV struck a power line, knocking live wires onto the street.

The 5100 block of Randolph Road near Shasta Lane was closed in both directions between Rembrandt Circle and Meadowood Lane until around 7 a.m.

As of 7:45 a.m. the outbound lanes are open while one inbound lane is still closed.  Delays are expected throughout rush hour on Providence Road.

Duke Energy is working to repair the damaged power lines, officials said.

The driver's condition is unknown at this time.  Details surrounding the crash are unclear.
