CATAWBA COUNTY, N.C. – The Catawba County Sheriff’s office arrested a teacher after he was allegedly videotaping a student.
Police say 50-year-old Scott Grantham was arrested on Friday after using a video camera to record a female student in the classroom.
The student told investigators that he used the camera to shoot down her blouse as he approached her from behind.
Grantham is a teacher at Arndt Middle School where he’s employed as an English as a Second Language teacher. Officials said they are looking into the possibility of more victims.
Grantham is charged with two felony counts of secret peeping. His bonds were set at $10,000, which he's since posted.
In a statement sent to NBC Charlotte, school officials said:
The superintendent, Dr. Dan Brigman, suspended Mr. Grantham with pay pending the outcome of the investigation.
In the meantime, Mr. Grantham has been prohibited from being on any campus owned or operated by Catawba County Schools and from communicating with employees and students.
Due to the ongoing investigation and laws relating to confidential personnel matters, Catawba County Schools cannot discuss this matter further at this time.
