Car hits train in northeast Charlotte; driver flees scene

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- A train hit a car in northeast Charlotte early Friday morning.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said the accident happened on Old Concord Road near Newell Hickory Grove Road around 4 a.m.

A train slammed into a car at the intersection, police said. The people in the car left the scene before police arrived.

Authorities said no one was injured in the accident. Crews cleared the scene around 6 a.m. and reopened the road.
