CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Sunday is Mother's Day, and in honor of all the moms we love, NBC Charlotte is devoting time this entire week to Moments in Motherhood, those special times that mothers remember forever.

Taylor Alston will head to NC A&T in the fall.  She says she’ll miss everything about her mom.  "I’m both excited and sad at the same time,” she said.

What will she miss most?

“Her calling me, me being able to say ‘mommy pick me up from school, can you pick me up from my friend’s house, the mall.’  Just everything.  Just being together.”

“Right now I don’t know how I’ll do it.  I’ll be an absolute mess.  But  yes, I think I can do it,” she said.

Mom agrees.  This is a right of passage and she’s proud of her daughter.

“I know that God is going to watch over her and give me the strength to deal with letting her go because I don’t want to make it so horrible that she feels baf for being away.  It’s time for her to see what life has to offer.  And I look forward to her just being happy,” say Altson’s mom, Rhonda Brockington.

In the next few weeks, thousands of high school seniors will graduate, marking a milestone in their lives, but also in their mother's lives.

Many will leave home for the first time to enter college or the workplace.

This special Motherhood Moment, when a child "leaves the nest," is the focus of Monday's Moment in Motherhood.
