Man accused of kidnapping woman in University City, stealing her car

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police arrested a man who is suspected of kidnapping a woman and stealing her car Saturday morning.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police arrested a man who is suspected of kidnapping a woman and stealing her car Saturday morning.

CMPD responded to a call of a robbery in the 3200 block of Queen City Drive a little after 8 a.m. According to CMPD, the female victim told officers a male suspect approached her in the 8600 block of University City Boulevard. The suspect told her he had a weapon and got inside the victim's vehicle and drove her to a location on Queen City Drive where he let her go.

CMPD said the woman was not injured.

The suspect drove off in her vehicle and officers later found the vehicle unoccupied near Mount Holly Road near northwest Charlotte. CMPD searched the area and arrested the suspect, later identified as 27-year-old Christian Shipp.

Shipp is charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon, kidnapping and assault on a female.
