Overnight storms bring rain to the Carolinas

Charlotteans are being urged to stay "weather aware" Thursday night and early Friday morning as severe weather is anticipated.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Showers and storms that made their way into the Carolinas Thursday evening are expected to clear the Charlotte area before lunchtime Friday.

According to meteorologist Larry Sprinkle, rainfall totals averaged 1.5-2.5 inches along the Blue Ridge Mountains, while some parts of South Carolina got well over 2 inches of rain.

The rain didn't have much of an impact on Charlotte, however, as the Queen City had totals of less than one-quarter of an inch Friday.

Sprinkle says there's a slight chance of showers Friday afternoon. The afternoon high temperatures are expected to reach the low-to-mid 70s, which will set the stage for a beautiful weekend.
