Big Ol' Pep Rally

Matthews Town Hall

Join us for the a pep rally for the last regular season game between Butler vs. Independence High School. There will be players, cheerleaders, marching bands and more!

The Butler/Independence game is always one of the city's most important games as Butler is one of only a handful of teams that appear to be talented enough to possibly knock off the Patriots. Independence ran their nation long winning streak to 85 games last week by getting past Myers Park. Butler lost a tough game to Providence but will look for the upset in the hopes of finishing in second place in the Southwestern 4-A conference.

Look for the Road Trip in front of the Matthews Town Hall.

Did you Know? Matthews began as a small farming community in the 1800s. Cotton farmers completely cleared the land, leaving tree stumps in every direction; thus, the first name for the community became Stumptown. In 1825, the name changed to Fullwood for John Fullwood who operated Stagecoach Inn and became the first postmaster for this area. Nearby residents received mail at the inn, and the stagecoach made regular stops on its way from Charlotte to Monroe.

Directions:

From Charlotte take E. Independence Boulevard to Matthews Township Parkway. Head into downtown Matthews. Before the railroad tracks (at Kristopher's restaurant) turn left onto Matthews Station Street.
