CHARLOTTE, N.C. – At least 10 people were injured after an accident involving a tractor-trailer on Interstate 485 Saturday afternoon.

The accident happened near Moores Chapel Road and I-485.  Medic tells NewsChannel 36 10 people were sent to the hospital; five people have life-threatening injuries.

According to the Highway Patrol, the driver of the tractor-trailer, 43-year-old Kevin Walker, looked down before realizing that traffic had slowed down in front of him.  Walker plowed into the back of several vehicles causing a chain reaction.

He is being charged with reckless driving.  NewsChannel 36 has learned a 9-month-old was in the back seat of one of the vehicles that Walker hit.  Highway patrol says the infant had no injuries.

I-485 was closed to traffic as first responders worked to clear the accident.

Around 6 p.m. all lanes of traffic on I-485 had re-open.
