MOORESVILLE, N.C. -- Two jet skiers were taken to the hospital Memorial Day, after an accident on Lake Norman near Strawpocket Lane.
Rescue crews are trying to figure out what happened in the incident that sent both people the hospital. One was airlifted for more serious injuries, according to crews on the ground.
Charlotte Fire Fighter Peter Darlington and a group of other fire fighters, nurses and EMT workers were on the lake together for the holiday and saw the jet skis floating without anyone on them. They pulled their boat around and found the jet skiers hanging on to the sides.
“We jumped in the water and used a pontoon boat to get the patient on his back and bring him over here,” he said as he pointed to the dock.
Darlington says both men appeared to be in their 20s. He did not believe their injuries were life threatening.
Darlington’s daughter is studying to become a nurse. Brittany Darlington said the hardest part of the rescue was stabilizing the men in the water. They were able to use towels and buoys from the boat to help get the two injured parties to safety.
