GASTONIA, N.C. – A four-year-old boy died after having trouble breathing at his daycare Monday morning in Gastonia.
The incident happened at Smart Kids’ Child Development Center on Cox Road shortly before 10 a.m.
Officials said they received a call to the location that someone was having difficulty breathing.
According to police, a daycare employee told authorities the little boy was playing with children in a room when the worker noticed him walking strangely. He then fell to the floor.
The child was rushed to Gaston Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Police said they don’t expect foul play and there is nothing suggesting the death is anything more than a medical issue.
The Gaston County medical examiner is investigating the child’s death.
