1. Veterans Day 2017: What's open and closed

With Veterans Day, always on November 11, falling on a Saturday this year, many government agencies and court systems are observing the holiday on Friday, November 10.

The vast majority of banks will be in business on Friday and shut down on Saturday. However, Charlotte-Mecklenburg students will not attend classes Friday.

Here are the openings and closings you can expect.

2. Get ready for a big chill in the Carolinas

The sun will come out on Friday, but it's just a tease ahead of an arctic blast that will bring frigid temperatures across much of the central and eastern U.S. over the next few days.

A freeze watch is in effect for most of Virginia and northern North Carolina.

3. Bank robbery suspect shot, killed by Salisbury officer after chase

Police in Salisbury are investigating an officer-involved shooting following an armed bank robbery and police chase Thursday afternoon.

Investigators said one customer inside Wells Fargo on West Jake Alexander Boulevard was shot. That person is being treated at a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

4. Do sex offenders live near your child's bus stop?

Parents in one Charlotte neighborhood found out their kids at the bus stop were standing just feet away from the door of a registered sex offender’s house. However, according to North Carolina law, that's not illegal.

5. Time for tip off! Men's college basketball season starts Friday

The 2017-18 men's college basketball season is officially here, and much of the attention will naturally shift from FBI indictments and player arrests in China to actual games.
