CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Shots ring out at a Charlotte skating rink and a child is hit by the bullet.
Police now have a man in custody.
Todd Houston will be charged with assault with a deadly weapon and possession of a firearm by a felon.
It was a chaotic scene Saturday night at the Starlight Roller Rink just off of West W.T. Harris Boulevard.
"If you can imagine every parent in there trying to grab their child and protect them as best they could. It was hysteria in there," says Darryl Jackson, who witnessed the shooting.
"It appeared to be like a domestic situation escalated. One father mad at the new father. He attempted to shoot the new father and missed and shot, I believe, his own daughter," says Jackson.
That little girl -- just 7 years old -- was shot in her right leg.
"It wasn't a good sight to see her laying on the stretcher like that bleeding," says Jackson.
He says nothing like Saturday's shooting has happened before at the rink, but says he will not be coming back.
"It may have been an isolated incident, you know, something like this could've been a lot worse. I'm not willing to take that chance again with my child," says Jackson
The little girl was taken Carolinas Medical Center with non life-threatening injuries.
Todd Houston is in police custody.
Officers aren't confirming at this hour if the suspect knew the victim.
