CLEVELAND COUNTY, N.C. -- On Tuesday, NewsChannel 36 spoke with Tim Peeler, who says he saw a Sasquatch near his home in Cesar.

Now, we have copies of the 911 calls that Peeler made to authorities. (Click the play button in the window above to listen to the tapes.)

"He was about 9, 10-foot tall with real long arms. ...It looked like a giant ape with a man's face," Peeler said in a 911 call. "I was afraid to kill it. It made a whimpering sound. I just wanted y'all to know I have not shot one or killed one."

Peeler told the 911 operator that the creature had killed one of his dogs.

"Would I get in any trouble if I shot and killed this beast, this animal or whatever it is?" Peeler asked.

The 911 operator responded, "I can't answer that question."

"If he comes to close to me, I'm going to kill him," Peeler said.

Peeler told NewsChannel 36 that he yelled at the beast and it left his property and went back into the mountains.

Reports of a Sasquatch aren't new to Cleveland County. They date back to the 1970s, although deputies we talked to say they haven't heard the stories in years.
