CORNELIUS, N.C. -- The windy weather fanned the flames of a house fire in Cornelius Sunday morning.
The fire started around 6 a.m. at a home on Brinkley Street. Firefighters say the blaze started from a lit candle and quickly spread due to the wind.
The homeowner was asleep on the couch, but managed to get out safely. Her two young kids were not home at the time.
The family is getting help from the Red Cross.
