CHARLOTTE, N.C. –- An accident briefly shut down Interstate 485 inner loop Sunday afternoon.
The accident happened on the interstate near Brookshire Boulevard around 3 p.m. Sunday. Medic tells NewsChannel 36, five patients were sent to the hospital. One was transported by a Med Center Air helicopter.
The North Carolina Highway Patrol, tells NewsChannel 36 all of the patients are expected to be OK. According to investigators, the 1997 Honda Civic ran off the road hitting a guard rail and a steel pole before overturning.
A ten-year-old was the only passenger not wearing a seat belt. He was ejected from the vehicle.
Troopers say they don’t believe alcohol played a role in the crash, but they’re suspicious of other impairing substances.
Charges are pending against the driver, Ronald Heath.
