GASTONIA, N.C.-- A huge break in the case of two Gaston County women, killed just weeks apart and bodies dumped in York County.

Now a suspect has been arrested and charged with their murders.

47-year old Danny Hembree has been arrested in connection to the deaths of Heather catterton and Randi Saldana

Hembree lived with his mother in Gastonia.

What is significant about his arrest is that he was dating the sister of one of the victims.

Investigators, while not going into detail, say the two murdered women and Danny are all tied together.

"The homicides occurred in Gaston County just prior to the discoveries of each victim. The suspect did know each of the victims," says Assistant Chief James Buie with the Gaston County Police.

Investigators charged Danny Hembree with the murders of 17-year old Heather Catterton and 30 year old Randi Saldana.

"They were friends, associates. They ran in the same circles. We don't want to get into what the girls may or may not have done that would have led to their deaths," says capt. J. D. Ramey with the Gaston County Police

Hembree's next door neighbor says Hembree was actually dating the sister of Heather Catterton, who was the first to be murdered, back in October.

"He's dating her sister. She was with him all the time...I asked Danny about it and he said they were just trying to pin it on him, but he didn't know about it," says neighbor Richard Owens.

Catterton's father did not want to talk to NewsChannel about the arrest or Hembree's relationship with the family.

Two weeks after Catterton's body was found, the burned body of Randi Saldana was found in Kings Mountain State Park.

"He just don't strike me as that type of guy," says Owens.

NewsChannel 36 has learned Hembree was a regular visitor of a another woman in an apartment complex that is right across the street in Gastonia from where the father of Randi Saldana's children lives.

People there were afraid of Hembree.

"I just heard he was a lot of trouble," says Nolan Nichols.

The father of Saldana's children did not want to go on camera but said he was relieved that a suspect was under arrest.

Hembree who has a long criminal wrap sheet, is behind bars with no bond in the Gaston County Jail.
