CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The boy scouts wants the community help as they start their 2013 Scouting For Food campaign.
Saturday, Troop 8 met up at Saint Matthews Catholic Church in Ballantyne armed with grocery bags.
They've spent the weekend passing them out, door to door, all over the area asking everyone to fill those bags with non-perishable food items. The donations will go to Loaves and Fishes.
“It's really important because some people, especially now that the economy is really bad and they can't afford that much food, so we try and supply food for them because they're in need,” said Troop 8 scout Daniel Eaton.
Troops have passed out roughly 10,000 bags thus far. Next Saturday, they'll retrieve the grocery bags filled with food items.
The public can also drop bags off at Mecklenburg County Harris Teeter stores through February 10th.
