CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Emergency responders rushed to the scene of an accident between a CATS bus and a tractor-trailer Monday afternoon.
The crash happened at the intersection of Tyvola Centre Drive and West Tyvola Road around 3:30 p.m.
Initial reports were that the bus and tractor trailer collided and the CATS bus was hit so hard that it turned on its side. Paramedics said they transported nine people to area hospitals -- including the bus driver -- all with non-life threatening injuries.
According to a spokesperson for CATS, the bus was making a routine stop when they were hit in the rear by the tractor-trailer. There were 11 people on the bus at the time of the crash.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg police shut down the inbound and outbound lanes of Tyvola Road for hours while they investigated the crash but reopened the road around 8 p.m.
No word yet on if there will be any charges filed.
