HARRISBURG, N.C. -- Heavy downpours have taken a toll in Cabarrus County, where roads are closed because of flood water.

The Rocky River was rushing over its banks on Wednesday, flowing over the Pharr Mill Road Bridge.

"That's the first one to go," said resident Darlene Cogburn.

There were at least two other bridges in Cabarrus County with the same fate -- flooded.

Authorities say you shouldn't drive through rushing water.

"You just go right down here and cut through Harrisburg," said one driver, who turned around when he saw the water-covered road.

Flooding prompted Paul Devalle to move his horses. The water turned their pasture into a lake.

"We go ahead, start pulling the horses out and putting them in the trailer and take them to some friends' house," Devalle said.

Cogburn lives yards away from the rushing water.

"I've been doing this here for 22 years. It's worrisome," she said.
